Evolución de los distintos sistemas de producción de acero y de hierro pudelado. Source Blue curve Werkstoffkunde Stahl. Rialia. Industria museoa.
Around 1892 the total amount of iron and steel made with the Bessemer process and the similar Thomas process* did not surpass the production by puddling. The Martin-Siemens process overtook Bessemer in 1900 and everything else in 1910. The puddle-system was working until late 1926.
* Thomas steel was even slightly harder and more brittle than Bessemer steel due to its flexibility for making cables or pipes and less suitable for bridge or ship construction.
