Project “The New Bilbao” In Portugalete
1901, «The New Bilbao» project between Portugalete and Santurtzi, shaped like a huge cod, the tail in Portugalete and holed out the sea. It never was carried out, but several buildings were planned, including a casino-resort-theater, crowned with a dome 50 meters in height. In the center was placed a square with 100 m. in diameter, the «Plaza de Vasconia» and out of the square towards the Villa in the backbone of the cod, a great central street, the «Avenida de Vizcaya», 700 m. long and 30 m. wide and two outer lanes: the «Avenida de Alava», for the ground and the «Avenida de Guipouzcoa» on the side of the river, both with 780 m. long by 20 m. wide.
