He was killed by U.S. marines while working as a <strong>war photo-journalist<\/strong> covering the American invasion of Panama in 1989 for the newspaper El Pa\u00eds, together with the journalist Maruja Torres. He left behind over 25,000 photographs which are held at the Archive of the Basque Country.
